Who is Marenal
Marenal is a peaceful sustainable community in Costa Rica, created by a small group of locals and expatriates committed to living sustainably above the tranquil shores of Lake Arenal in Nuevo Arenal. Our community provides an environment suited to retired persons interested in property in a peaceful eco-village, working digital nomads, investors seeking relief from uncertainty in their home countries, and families seeking a healthier, more peaceful life.
The community is a joint effort between a Costa Rican family with deep roots in the region and Franz Xaver Meier, a Bavarian-American inspired by Lake Arenal’s natural beauty. More than twenty-five years ago, Franz envisioned a nature-based, sovereign community in Costa Rica where people could live in harmony with the environment while maintaining independence and well-being. Now a full-time resident, he continues to guide the growth of MARENAL with care and dedication.
Our dedication to Peace, Liberty, and the Pura Vida lifestyle, fostering a space where residents can make life choices that do not harm others. It is part of a network engendering trust in a safe and sustainable community in Costa Rica designed to promote both ecological stewardship and social connection.
Since we are a Gated Agricultural Community (GAC), we encourage our residents to live sustainably as a safe and sustainable community by learning about organic gardening, growing pesticide-free food through permaculture, and aquaculture. Our eco-community property investment can would be a solid property investment in Costa Rica and also serves those interested in regenerative, eco-conscious, sovereign community.

Costa Rican native with over 15 years as Business Administrator for Marenal and GLP Ganadera Los Pilones. Dedicated to Marenal’s growth and inspired by family, food, and fashion.
Marlon Muñoz | Operations Manager
Born in Tronadora, Marlon specializes in land management, agriculture, and precision mechanics. He oversees Marenal’s grounds, livestock, and construction as part of the founding family.
Gina Briguglio | Sales Manager
Originally from Chicago, Gina brings first-hand relocation experience to Costa Rica. Dual-licensed in Costa Rica and Illinois, she offers clients trusted local expertise with global reach.
Manuel Talavera | Construction Manager
Owner of Constructora y Remodelaciones Talavera Orozco S.A., Manuel brings decades of building experience. Known for leadership and integrity, he oversees all construction operations.
Kenneth Artavia | Architect – Urban Planner
Licensed architect and urban planner (CFIA A-37226) with expertise in sustainable design and site management. A native of Arenal, Kenneth contributes deep local and environmental insight.
