Our Vision for Marenal
Many years ago, I began to plan an ecologically sensitive, interactive and profitable “Sustainable Community" for people with a love for liberty and personal responsibility.
I wanted to create a Community that can build life-enhancing and enduring relationships between its people and the land, which will benefit both the community and the local economy.
Marenal would provide its own sources of energy, nourishment, recreation, education and economic opportunities as much as possible.
Since then, my concept has matured. As a matter of fact, now is a better time than ever to consider Marenal for your future home and to become a Community partner.
The current turmoil in the world, due to the pandemic and the out of balance economic situation on every continent makes independent and sustainable living just that much more desirable.
For these reasons, and the recently passed national and municipal rules and regulations for real estate developments in Costa Rica, and the increased reporting obligations for foreign investors under the FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), have made me change and reduce the size of my development plan.
Under this revised plan, I will share the assets of Marenal with a very limited number of investors. However, I will remain an equal partner.
Now, one can become not only a resident of the Community, but also an owner of our organic farm, participating in its income potential and growing value!

I should mention however, that this offer is very limited. Only eleven (11) Partners, of which I am one, can be residents and owners.
Of course, we must be careful in the selection of our partners, as we want to assure every investor, as much as possible, that they will have compatible neighbors and potential future friends.
Our residences will offer security and privacy in an evergreen tropical setting, surrounded by your own private garden. The lots are deliberately of reasonable size, ranging from 1,100 m2 to over 4,000 m2, allowing our houses to be far enough apart for privacy and close enough for added security.
Our farm, Finca Marenal, is within walking distance and provides all types of activities for a healthy lifestyle. There will be an abundance of fresh produce, flowers and medicinal herbs, and much more. The farm will nourish our residents and sell its excess products directly to the community and at farmer's markets.
Our Community will have great opportunities for social interaction and activities. Our interests shall hopefully extend to educational endeavors and research of the natural world. Physical and mental health are important objectives of our Community.
As you may imagine, a newcomer to the country has many questions and concerns. Just finding your way around in a new country and its unfamiliar environment, especially if one does not speak the language, can be a daunting task.
We are here to help you in setting up banking relations, recommending architects and contractors, assist you in getting construction permits and becoming familiar with local laws and customs, or obtaining Costa Rican residency. In short, we make it easy for you to integrate into the country and the local community.
